In Tribute to my mother Carol Royko (1934-1979)

On September 19th (my father's birthday, no less) 1979, my mother, Carol, died suddenly and unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm. She was 44 years old. With her friend Sue Crawford (who lived from 11/15/39 to 1/8/09), Carol had just launched the “I Care” collection, greeting cards designed for people with chronic or terminal illnesses, a population for whom, in the 1970s, nothing else existed. Soon after she died, The New Entrepreneurs, a book by Terri and Nona Tepper, examining “Women working from home” was published, and (blond) Mom's and (brunette) Sue's story comprised one of the chapters. Here is that chapter.
